Snatch, Clean, Jerk!
Learn, re-learn, develop or fine-tune your Olympic weightlifting technique as you build strength and move barbells like a champion! We offer a multi-level program where coaches provide individual and tailored feedback to help you master your Olympic lifts at your level.
Program Update: Spring 2026 will offer a combined Level 1 and Level 2 class. Registration opens on April 2nd.

For Winter 2026, classes have been extended from 6 weeks to 8 weeks in length (4 additional classes); and extended from 60 minutes to 90 minutes.

Current Programs Offered:
Olympic Weightligting Level 1 - Learn To Lift
In this beginner level program, participants will learn the basics of 3 Olympic Lifting Movements: the Snatch, Clean, and Jerk. Coached by a NCCP trained Olympic Weightlifting Coach, the focus of the class is learning the basic technical skills involved in each movement. Participants will complete the course with a more thorough understanding of how to perform each movement and have the skills necessary to begin adding increased weight to the bar and progress to Level 2. No prior Olympic Lifting experience necessary.
Spring 2026 Session Period:
May 5 - June 25.
Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:00pm - 7:30pm
Spring 2026 will offer a combined Level 1 and Level 2 class, coaches will adjust programming to individual capabilities. Registration opens on April 2nd.
Olympic Weightlifting Level 2 - Improve your lift
Level 2 is for participants who already understand the basic technique of each Olympic Lifting movement. Participants will receive and be coached through a program designed to improve their Olympic Weightlifting technique and allow them to progress in their bar weight. This course will also spend more time in teaching the technique of the Jerk. Prerequisite for this program is completion of Level 1 “Learn to Lift”, or prior practice and technical knowledge of the Snatch, Clean, and Jerk.

Equipment needed
All equipment will be provided, including barbells, dowels, weights, and more!
No special clothing is required. Wear something you can move comfortably in. Wear comfortable closed-toe and athletic shoes.
Registration and cancellation policy
Members are required to register for this program at an additional cost via https://recreation.utoronto.ca/
Participants are able to register up until the start of the 2nd class.
Participants are able to request a class transfer up until the start of the 2nd class.
Participants are able to request a cancellation and refund up until the start of 2nd class. Participants will be refunded the full amount less a cancellation fee of 10% or $5 - whichever is greater - for each withdrawn registration. Please email sportandrec@utoronto.ca with a reason for the cancellation. Learn more about our registration and withdrawal policies here.
Participants are not officially registered in a program until a confirmation email from Sport & Rec is received indicating that enrollment has been processed. The confirmation email is sent immediately after registration is complete. If the confirmation email is not received, participants should contact Sport & Rec to verify enrollment.
